This is pretty neat! I remember my first time meeting him; he was dressed in black, platform boots, and looked like a member of the Kiss Army. Read the last paragraph, where he mentions me (glowing proudly!)
Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN-WI (1888PressRelease) September 03, 2009 - Brown College today announced that Michael Dane Sellstedt has been named the 2009 recipient of the new Del Fischer Broadcasting Scholarship. In February 2009 the Dakota Radio Group, Ingstad Family Media and the listeners of KGFX collectively donated $8,500 to the Career Education Scholarship Fund, in support of Brown College students who embody a commitment to service and community. Established to honor the memory of beloved South Dakota radio broadcaster, Del Fisher, the scholarship awards $1,000 annually to a student who best exemplifies Del Fisher's spirit of community service and leadership.
Prospective recipients were judged on financial need (determined by the school), a student essay on one of two pre-determined topics, evaluation of activities, both inside and outside of school, that demonstrate a personal commitment to service and leadership and letter(s) of recommendation that address how the applicant met specific scholarship criteria.
Michael, who utilizes the stage name of "Michael Dane," is no stranger to the world of radio and entertainment. Dane has an impressive resume that includes both film and television acting credits, along with an established history of working in broadcast radio in New York City, on the Mancow Morning Show in Chicago, and most recently as the host of Seattle Rock Live in Seattle.
The native Minnesotan has always wanted to work in the entertainment industry. "I had looked at Brown College a few years ago, but knew that I'd probably never finish, so I let it drop," said Dane. "I came back to Brown this past February and met with my admissions representative, George Hild. He was really beneficial in helping me see the big picture and his sincerity made me feel like someone really cared about my future."
