Last Saturday, I made a triumphant return to academia by way of graduate school. It makes a considerable difference when I know both why I'm there, and what outcomes I'm expecting. The books I've purchased will be read this time.
Joking aside, it's great to be back. My first class is taught by Dr. Lange, the Dean of the Education Department at Argosy. He's funny, engaging, and wickedly intelligent.
There are eleven people in my class, ranging in age from early twenties to ealy fifties, with all different backgrounds and experiences. Roughly half the class currently teach, and the remainder, like myself, are in it not only to further our educations, but to enter into areas like educational coaching, curriculum development, and leadership. The good news is that jobs in this field are expected to grow at something like twenty-eight percent in the next ten years, so my prospects are good; far better than, say, K-12 education, where jobs are scarce.
At the end of my six hour class (which meets every Saturday), my brain muscle felt stretched and satisfied. I have a feeling that these thirty credits will fly-by very quickly.
